Workers Union and Coronavirus

Dear Members, colleagues and associates.

Over the last couple of weeks, many of you have contacted us to ask whether the Coronavirus pandemic will affect the day-to-day running of the union. For the avoidance of doubt, we have outlined the current situation below. Please note that our status is liable to change on a day-to-basis, so check back here for regular updates.

Are you still running essential membership services?

Yes we are still running essential membership services; however most of our staff are working from home. This may mean that we are slower to respond to some enquiries, but please rest assured that helping our members is still our urgent priority and all the cogs in our machine will keep turning. Do not hesitate to get in touch with us – we *will* respond as soon as we are able to.

Will union representatives still be making site visits?

With the current emphasis very much on ‘social distancing’, we regret to announce that site visits are cancelled until further notice. However, we are working on a unique way I which we can offer representations remotely.  If you need to get in touch with us, please do so by sending a message to through your dashboard only. Dashboard is a privilege for members only.

Will the website continue to be updated with important news and features?

Emphatically, yes. Keeping our members informed of events is an essential part of what we do. Our wheels will keep turning throughout this unprecedented time. We’ll be updating the news page with important information relating to Coronavirus and all the other big stories throughout the week.

My manager is threatening to sack me if I don’t turn up to work, but I don’t feel well. What should I do?

With the number of confirmed cases of Coronavirus in the UK standing at 1,372 and infections on the rise, staying away from work if you feel unwell is essential. Nobody should be bullied into work – whatever the circumstances – so if this has happened to you as a member then take action and get in touch with us now.

A word from the General Secretary:

We hope this message has helped to reassure you that our membership services will continue to operate during this difficult period. We’re working hard to ensure that everyone who contacts us receives the individual attention we are known for.  That said, the unique challenges presented by the Coronavirus outbreak mean that we may operate a little differently. Where this occurs, we will explain our reasons clearly and every effort will be made to keep you informed.

Wash your hands, be safe and together we will get through this.

Thanks for sticking with us…we’re stronger together.
