Cheshire Police has announced the opening of a fresh recruitment window, offering UK workers the opportunity to join one of the highest-performing forces in the North West. With salaries ranging from £31,164 to £50,256, these policing roles promise a challenging yet rewarding career path for those ready to make a real difference in their communities.

Recruitment event at Winsford Headquarters

An open recruitment event will be held at Cheshire Police’s Winsford Headquarters on Tuesday, September 24, designed to give potential applicants an insight into what life is like on the front line of policing. Attendees will be able to meet serving officers, ask questions, and gain a first-hand understanding of the responsibilities and rewards of a policing career.

Specialist teams including the Underwater Search Team, Drone Unit, Roads and Crime Unit, Firearms, Dog Unit, and detectives will be on hand to showcase their work. Visitors can also try a practice bleep fitness test on the day, provided they bring suitable attire.

A message from Cheshire Police leadership

Assistant Chief Constable Alison Ross emphasised the life-changing potential of the role, stating:

Becoming a police constable is more than just starting a new job – it’s joining a team that works every day to protect people and make our communities safer. Policing is a very challenging – and rewarding – career, and we’re looking for people from all walks of life who have the passion, resilience and commitment to make a difference to apply.”

Ross highlighted that Cheshire Police has retained its position as the safest place in the North West, and continues to receive praise for keeping people safe, reducing crime, and providing effective service to victims. The latest figures confirm that Cheshire has the lowest crime rate in the region, which the force attributes to the dedication of its staff and officers.

What the role offers

Successful candidates will begin their training in March 2026. The job promises significant development opportunities, with a two-year probationary period leading to further progression through the ranks.

Cheshire Police outlined the qualities they seek:

  • Passion, drive, and enthusiasm
  • Resilience to handle a physically, mentally and emotionally demanding role
  • A commitment to making Cheshire safer

Applicants must be 18 years old by the intake date, possess a Full UK manual driving licence, and hold at least a Level 3 qualification (two A Levels A-D) or equivalent*. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of formal qualifications. Those with tattoos must upload photographs during the application process.

Apply early to secure your place

Due to expected high demand, Cheshire Police has warned that the application window will stay open for a minimum of 48 hours but may close earlier once sufficient applications are received. All applications must be submitted before 9am on Monday, October 6.

A Cheshire Police spokesperson urged prospective candidates to act quickly:

“Once we have received the number of applications required for this recruitment process, we will be closing the recruitment window. We strongly advise that you submit your application as soon as possible to avoid missing out.”

This recruitment drive offers a unique chance for those who are motivated by public service and wish to pursue a varied and fulfilling career where no two days are ever the same.
