3D Secure Update

3D Secure Update. Extra checks to keep you safe online

3D Secure Safety

Hello.

You may notice that we ask you to approve your online membership purchase and that more transactions are declined starting from Monday 14th March 2022. This is due to new rules to help make it safer to shop online. From now on, all banks and retailers are required by law to use the 3D Secure system to help stop fraudsters. The Workers Union uses 3D Secure.

What is 3D Secure?

3D Secure is a payment security system designed to reduce card fraud by checking that it’s really you trying to buy something. At The Workers Union, we already have 3D Secure in place. Here’s how it works:

  1. When you make an online card payment that needs extra authentication, you’ll see a window pop up on the retailer’s website asking you to check your banking app.
  2. You’ll receive an instant notification from The Workers Union on your phone, asking you to open your banking app.
  3. From here, you will be asked to review and confirm the purchase before returning to our website.

What happens if a service provider doesn’t use 3D Secure?

All retailers have to be able to handle 3D Secure, but some might not yet be ready. If you’re making an online purchase that needs extra security checks, but the retailer isn’t using 3D Secure properly, your payment might be declined. If this happens, it’s a good idea to get in touch with the retailer to see if you can pay them another way or try another card.
